Use Verizon EVDO Device without VZAccess Manager
Verizon EVDO is popular with rural and mobile users. The device comes with VZAccess Manager that is used to connect to the internet via your 3G modem. However, it is more efficent and you will gain a small speed boost by using Windows Dial-Up Connections instead.
If you’ve just received a new modem, you must install VZAccess Manager before you can connect to the internet. The installation process of VZAccess Manager installs the device drivers for your modem. It also activates the device. So plug your modem in, go through the installation process and do a test connection with VZAccess Manager to make sure your device is working. If it connects, you can uninstall VZAccess Manager from the Control Panel and continue with this tutorial, though uninstalling it isn’t necessary.
Make sure your device is plugged into your computer. Go to the Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet.
Click Network and Sharing Center.
Click Set up a new connection or network.
Choose Set up a dial-up connection and click Next.
In the Dial-up phone number field, enter #777.
Enter a relevant name for the connection in the Connection name field. Leave everything else blank and click Connect.
You’ll see a screen testing your connection and a progress bar. Wait for it to finish.
The connection to the Internet will now be ready to use. Click Close.
Go back to the Control Panel and click Network and Internet.
Click Network and Sharing Center.
On the left, click Change Adapter Settings.
Right Click your connection and choose Create Shortcut.
You will get a pop up message asking if you want to place the shortcut on your desktop. Click Yes.
You can now connect to your EVDO device using Windows dial-up connections instead of VZAccess Manager by simply clicking the shortcut on your Desktop. You should also notice a small boost in speed.
